General Description
Immobilizer Control Module (ICM) supplies power to the coil antenna, receives and analyses signal from the coil antenna, transmits signal to engine ECM and stores VIN(Vehicle Identification Number for Immobilizer not the number on the bulkhead of vehicle) which composes of ID code and password.
DTC Description
ICM stores VIN which composes of ID code and password. This DTC is defined that VIN is inconsistent data of EEPROM or invalid write operation to EEPROM.

KEY :
ID Key- Must be used first to register unique ID Code in the ICM. This ID code is then recorded onto the master and sub keys. Both sides of the key has a Hyundai logo but the color is yet to be specified.
Master Key - Once the ID Code is recorded onto the Master Key, this key is for general use. One side of the key has the Hyundai logo and the other side has the ‘M’ symbol. The color of the key is BLACK.
Sub Key - Similar to the Master key but it is not possible to operate the trunk and the glove box. One side of the key has the Hyundai logo and the other side has a ‘S’ symbol. The color of the key is BLACK.
Current Data from Immobilizer will show the number of ID Key Volumes, Master Key Volumes have been matched with ICM and ECM and Key Information in key cylinder Check as Fig 1.
Fig 2. show that ID KEY, Master KEY have not matched with ICM and ECM. ICM recognizes that A not registered key is in the key cylinder.
Fig3. shows that One ID key and One Master key has been matched with ICM and ECM. Ignition On with Master key.
Fig4. shows that ID key have been matched and Ignition On with ID key.
Fig5. shows that Ignition On with secondarily registered Master Key.

1.Password Changing/Recording
The password may be used to register master keys in the absence of the ID key. All model vehicles have the initial password preset by the manufacturer as 2345(Virgin condition). The initial password is replaced by a password nominated by the owner.
For Password Changing/Record, Scan tool must be utilized. Once the password has been changed from 2345, the ICM is now ready to record ID code. The password is 4 digits long between numbers 0 to 9.If the owner cannot remember the nominated password, the ICM must be replaced and a new password nominated. A function to read recorded password in the ICM is not available.
Inhibition of Password Input-If wrong password is inputted from scan tool during Password Record/Change, Master Key Record/Change and Master Key Delete procedure, Password is rejected as below(regardless of Ignition ON or OFF)

2.Master Key Record/Change
This a function to register Master keys with scan tool when ID key is not present. The maximum key teaching is allowed up to 4(four)
3.Master Key Delete
?This is a function to reregister new Master keys with scan tool after clearing all information about Master keys registered in advance
4.Neutral Mode
This is a function to neutralize ECM in order to reuse it for another vehicle. Before substituting with ECM for another vehicle, neutral mode should be performed.
5.Immobilizer Reset
?This is a function for production line in KMC side. Therefore, it is unnecessary to use this function in service bay.
6.Limp Home
Limp home can be conducted when “S” code is unmatched or Transponder is in Malfunction. Fail Safe Operation : “when the password is 2345”, the number of IG ON/OFF must coincide with the password.

Master Key Correction - In cases where a new set of Master keys need to be produced, it can be achieved using two methods.
Using ID KEY
Using Scan tool
8.Things to Remember before a Repair
Master Key lost
Additional master keys made using ID key or Password. It is very important to keep in mind if additional master keys are made, previously registered master keys are deleted.
All keys lost including ID key
Additional master keys made using password.
Impossible to register additional ID key.
ID key is not serviceable because one ID key is for one vehicle.
All keys lost including ID key and password.
The ICM need to be replaced.
For MELCO system,
ICM replaced with new ICM.
The new ICM contains initial password of 2345.
For MELCO system,
- Change password
- Register ID key
- Register master and sub key
ICM replaced with used ICM.
(Case 1) ID key corresponding to OLD ICM have had :
- The key will not mechanically fit the key cylinder.
(Case 2) Password corresponding to OLD ICM is known :
- Possible to register Master keys on ICM using password.
(Case 3) Password not known :
- Used ICM cannot be utilized in this case.
In case that communication between ICM or ECM with scantool is possible
For MELCO system,
In case that communication between ICM & ECM is impossible - Password is known
In case that communication between ICM & ECM is impossible - Password is not known
ECM replaced with new ECM.
For MELCO system, No effect.
ECM replaced with used ECM
